The restaurant chain Mr. Sushi asked me to help them create a simple, but bold, identity for their business.
Mr. Sushi is well known for being friendly, personable, and only using high quality and fresh ingredients. The goal was to create a bold logo that encouraged initial “walk in” business and break existing sushi loyalties.
In order to stand out from the plethora of sushi restaurants and fast food alternatives in Vancouver, I encouraged Mr. Sushi to build on tradition while at the same time setting their brand above their competitors. We agreed on placing an emphasis on the well known Japanese rising sun flag.
Visually, the logo needed to be recognizable from far a distance, work effectively on a very small scale, and also be readable without colour. The end result was a bold and clean logo that reflected the nature of their business.
After re-branding their logo, Mr. Sushi shared the new image on their social media networks; receiving overwhelming feedback and “likes” on Facebook. The logo alone dramatically increased their social media presence within the community. Customers were excited to see the newly designed menu and immediately asked if there were t-shirts for sale.
Mr. Sushi capitalized on this enthusiasm quickly and began selling t-shirts. Suddenly, people around the community were not only sharing their love of Mr. Sushi with friends and family via word of mouth and social networks, but they were wearing the brand itself – priceless.
